Defections within the National Assembly of Nigeria have persisted, as four members of the House of Representatives Nigeria representing constituencies in Kano State have formally resigned their membership of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The announcement was made during plenary by the Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, after he read the official letters submitted by the lawmakers notifying the chamber of their decision.
The affected legislators include Sani Wakili, representing Minjibir/Ungogo Federal Constituency; Muktar Zakari of Tarauni Federal Constituency; Umar Datti representing Kura/Madobi/Garun Mallam Federal Constituency; and Abdulhakeem Ado of Wudil/Garko Federal Constituency.
This latest development adds to a growing pattern of party realignments within the National Assembly. Just a day earlier, the chamber recorded another round of defections, during which the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lost five members, while the All Progressives Congress (APC) also experienced the exit of two lawmakers.
