The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has rejected a request made by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) seeking permission to visit former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai in custody.
The commission disclosed this in an official letter dated May 21, 2026, which was addressed to the National Secretary of the ADC in Abuja.
According to the ICPC, El-Rufai is currently standing trial before two separate courts sitting in Kaduna State — the State High Court of Justice and the Federal High Court.
The anti-corruption agency explained that although the former governor remains in its custody following court orders, the legal proceedings are already before the courts, limiting the categories of individuals permitted to visit him.
In the letter, the commission stated that only his family members, medical personnel, and legal counsel have been granted access to him while in detention.
“The court has granted access to the defendant to his family, doctors and counsels. These are the only category of persons granted access to see the defendant in the Commission’s custody,” the letter read.
The ICPC added that based on the court’s position and the conditions attached to his custody, the ADC’s request to visit El-Rufai could not be approved.
