Prominent Nigerian activist Aisha Yesufu has vowed to resist any form of electoral manipulation as she prepares for a possible bid for the Federal Capital Territory Senate seat in the 2027 general elections.
Yesufu made the remarks during an appearance on Channels Television
’s Politics Today on Thursday, where she spoke about her political ambitions and concerns about the integrity of elections in Nigeria.
During the interview, the activist said she has no intention of engaging in unlawful political practices but warned that anyone planning to tamper with votes legitimately given to her by the people should be ready for strong opposition.
“I will not do any illegality. I am not going to steal anybody’s vote, but if I am able to clinch my party ticket and we get to the general election, anyone who thinks they will rig the vote that the people have given me, will know that when they go low, I will go underground,” she said.
Yesufu also suggested that she would not be an easy target for political intimidation or manipulation, insisting that no individual or group has exclusive control over political power.
“Nobody has monopoly of anyhowness. I don’t think I look like someone who is a walk-over to anybody,” she added.
The activist further expressed confidence in voters in the Federal Capital Territory, describing residents of Abuja as politically aware and firm in defending their electoral decisions during general elections.
According to her, the people of the FCT are capable of choosing their preferred candidates without external influence or imposition.
“One of the things I also know about the politics of Abuja is, when it comes to the general election, Abuja residents are very, very firm in their decision. And they choose who they want. Nobody has a right to come and impose anybody on Abuja people,” she stated.
Aisha Yesufu became widely known for her activism during the Bring Back Our Girls movement and has remained a strong voice on governance, accountability, and democratic rights in Nigeria.
