Aisha Yesufu Urges Wike to Resolve FCT Teachers Strike

Prominent activist Aisha Yesufu has voiced concern over the ongoing teachers’ strike in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), calling for immediate intervention by the Minister, Nyesom Wike.

In a statement issued on Monday, Yesufu highlighted the impact of the prolonged strike on public primary schools, noting that thousands of pupils have been left out of classrooms for weeks. She described the situation as troubling, especially given the long-term implications for children’s education.

According to her, access to education is a fundamental right that should not be compromised, regardless of ongoing disputes. She urged authorities to treat the matter with urgency and ensure that both teachers’ welfare and students’ learning needs are adequately addressed.

“The continuous strike by teachers in the FCT is unacceptable. Our children cannot keep paying the price for unresolved issues,” she said.

Yesufu specifically appealed to the FCT administration to take decisive steps in resolving the concerns raised by the striking teachers, which include unpaid salaries and poor working conditions. She noted that addressing these issues promptly would not only bring the strike to an end but also restore confidence in the public education system.

The ongoing industrial action has kept many pupils at home, raising growing concerns among parents about the long-term impact on learning outcomes and academic progress.

Overall, she stressed the need for swift and effective dialogue between the government and teachers to prevent further disruption and ensure that education remains accessible to all children in the FCT.
