Yobe Govt Moves to Tackle Youth Immorality in Potiskum

The Yobe State Government has raised alarm over increasing cases of immoral behaviour among young people in Potiskum and nearby communities.

The concern was highlighted during a meeting held on Tuesday, chaired by Deputy Governor Idi Barde Gubana. The gathering brought together traditional rulers, religious leaders, local government officials, and security agencies to address the issue.

According to Gubana, the meeting was convened on the directive of Governor Mai Mala Buni as part of efforts to tackle the growing problem.

“We are deeply concerned over the escalating levels of immorality among our youth. There is a need for us to take collective action to curb these troubling behaviours”, he said.

Speaking after the meeting, the lawmaker representing Potiskum East, Isa Bello Danchua, said stakeholders agreed on practical steps to address the situation.

“We have come to a conclusion that the government will do its own part in providing all necessary support to religious leaders, security agencies and other stakeholders to effectively fight the menace of immoral acts to the barest minimum”, he said.

He added that the initiative is aimed at promoting shared responsibility among community leaders while encouraging positive values and a healthier environment for young people.
