Benue Chairman Condemns Killings in Naka, Vows Action

The Chairman of Gwer West Local Government Area in Benue State, Ormin Torsar Victor, has strongly denounced the recent wave of killings in Naka Town, describing the violence as “senseless and barbaric” and vowing to take decisive action against those responsible.

Victor made this known on Thursday during a condolence visit to the community, where he met with families affected by the attacks and assessed the security situation on ground. He assured residents that efforts were underway to dismantle criminal networks believed to be behind the suspected cult-related violence.

Naka, which serves as the headquarters of Gwer West LGA, has recently experienced an upsurge in violent incidents linked to suspected cult clashes, leaving several casualties and deepening fear among residents.

Accompanied by the Divisional Police Officer, Gazma Chazam, the chairman visited multiple locations, including the residence of youth leader Iorkohol Peter. Eyewitnesses at the scene described how more than 20 teenagers, said to be between 13 and 15 years old, launched a coordinated attack using stones and pestles.

In another tragic case, a resident identified as Tarbo Moses, popularly known as “Hot Body”, lost his life after suffering injuries during an assault. He was reportedly rushed to a private hospital but did not survive.

Visibly disturbed by the incidents, Victor reiterated his commitment to restoring peace in the area and ensuring that those behind the attacks are brought to justice.

“We will not tolerate this anymore. Enough is enough,” he said.

He further addressed youths and traders within the community, urging them to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as investigations continue.

As part of immediate measures, the chairman has directed security operatives to step up surveillance and strengthen intelligence gathering to prevent further violence and track down those involved.
