Troops Arrest Two Terror Suspects in Yobe

Troops of the 159 Battalion have arrested two individuals suspected of terrorist links during a stop-and-search operation in Yobe State, as part of ongoing security efforts in the region.

The development was made public by counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, who shared details of the operation in a statement posted on X.

According to the report, the suspects—identified as Dahiru Mohammed, aged 40, and Ismail Adamu, aged 34—both natives of Geidam, were intercepted at about 8:00 a.m. on April 30. They were arrested at a checkpoint manned by troops at the B Company location in Kanama.

Makama explained that the suspects were stopped while returning from Damasak market, where routine checks by soldiers led to their apprehension.

Initial investigations reportedly uncovered suspicious content on the suspects’ mobile phones, including images believed to indicate possible connections with terrorist elements.

“Items recovered from the suspects include two smartphones, seven hijabs, seven pairs of footwear, two towels, 107 veils, one umbrella, two praying mats, 34 turbans, one set of prayer beads, children’s clothing and the sum of N408,500.

“The suspects and recovered items are currently in military custody for further investigation and possible prosecution,” Makama revealed.

Security authorities are continuing investigations to determine the extent of the suspects’ involvement and any potential links to ongoing insurgent activities in the region.
