Omoyele Sowore has expressed concern over what he describes as the misuse of legal procedures in relation to the case involving Nasir El-Rufai.
The activist made his position known through a statement shared on his official page, where he criticised what he termed the growing use of “lawfare” the strategic deployment of legal processes for purposes beyond justice.
According to him, such practices risk undermining the integrity of the judicial system when used as tools of coercion or intimidation.
Sowore called on the courts to adhere strictly to constitutional principles by ensuring that due process is respected in all cases. He stressed that bail, as a legal provision, should be applied appropriately and not manipulated in ways that could infringe on individual rights.
“Bail is a constitutional right, not a tool for punishment or intimidation,” he said.
He further argued that the imposition of overly restrictive or unjust bail conditions can erode confidence in the justice system, particularly when such measures appear disproportionate or selectively applied.
Sowore maintained that the principles of fairness and equality before the law must remain paramount, regardless of the individuals involved in any case.
He emphasised that safeguarding these standards is essential to maintaining public trust in legal institutions.
