Activist and politician Omoyele Sowore has described the alleged assassination plot revealed by fellow activist Chizorom Harrison Ofoegbu as part of a wider pattern of intimidation against dissenting voices in Nigeria.
Sowore said the claim should not be seen as a one-off incident, but rather a continuation of what he believes is a coordinated effort to silence critics of injustice. Despite this, he insisted such tactics would not halt the push for change.
In a statement shared on X, he said: “The assassination plot against me, as revealed by Harrison Ofoegbu, also known as ‘@IjeleSpeaks2,’ is not an isolated incident. It is part of a consistent and deeply troubling pattern of targeted intimidation and violence aimed at silencing dissent and crushing voices that challenge injustice.”
He added that the development reinforces his long-standing view that threats against outspoken individuals are deliberate and carefully planned.
Sowore also referenced his past encounters with Ofoegbu, noting that their relationship began with tension during a court appearance linked to Nnamdi Kanu before evolving into an alliance.
He further alleged that Ofoegbu had faced arrest and extended detention under stringent bail conditions, alongside suspected attempts to move him under circumstances he considered dangerous.
Drawing parallels with his own experiences, Sowore claimed he has survived multiple assassination attempts, including those allegedly involving security operatives. He also cited the 2021 killing of his brother, Felix Olajide Sowore, as part of a troubling pattern.
Tracing the issue back to his student activism days at the University of Lagos in the 1990s, he maintained that efforts to silence him have consistently failed.
“The recent revelations by @IjeleSpeaks2 should not be dismissed as mere outbursts.
“While he did not personally disclose to me the specifics of any plot, I have long been aware of repeated attempts on my life… But it is too late. The struggle for total liberation is already in motion. Nothing can stop it,” he said.
