Bandits Kill Health Officer, 5 Others in Zamfara

Armed bandits have attacked Yarkatsinan Laka community in Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State, killing a Community Health Officer and five others while setting a primary health centre on fire.

According to the Zamfara State Police Command, the attackers stormed the area in large numbers, arriving on more than 50 motorcycles and armed with sophisticated weapons.

Police spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar, confirmed that security operatives responded promptly to the assault.

“The Police Strike Unit responded swiftly and engaged the assailants in a gun duel, resulting in the neutralisation of 11 armed bandits, while several others escaped with gunshot injuries.”

Despite the resistance, the violence claimed the lives of two police officers and three civilians during the confrontation. One officer was also injured but is currently receiving treatment and responding well.

Authorities say calm has now returned to the community. Residents have been urged to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible information to help prevent future attacks.
