Troops Intercept Suspected Terror Couriers in Kogi

Troops operating under Operation MESA have arrested two individuals suspected of acting as logistics couriers for terrorist groups along the Obajana–Kabba road in Lokoja.

The development was revealed in a post on X by Zagazola Makama, a security analyst known for reporting on counter-insurgency activities in the Lake Chad region.

According to the report, the operation was carried out on Monday after troops received credible intelligence indicating the movement of suspected couriers transporting logistics materials.

Acting on this information, soldiers attached to the 12 Brigade established a snap checkpoint at a location identified as RA Oshokoshoko. During the operation, they intercepted a vehicle travelling from Makurdi towards Obajana.

A thorough search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a sack concealed behind the driver’s seat. Inside, troops recovered 314 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition along with three AK-47 magazines.

Additional items found in the vehicle included two mobile phones, a driver’s licence, a National Identification Number (NIN) slip, and an identity card, all of which are expected to aid ongoing investigations.

The suspects, along with the recovered items, have been taken into military custody as authorities continue to investigate the case and determine the extent of their involvement.
