‘I Don’t Want My Kids in Entertainment’ — Davido

Renowned Afrobeats artist Davido has shared his thoughts on his children’s future, revealing that he would prefer they pursue careers outside the entertainment industry.

The singer made the remark during a widely circulated interview on The Breakfast Club, where he spoke about family, career choices, and the influence of his upbringing.

According to Davido, his preference is for his children to work within the business empire built by his father, Deji Adeleke.

He explained that this path would offer them greater stability and a more comfortable life compared to the challenges he faced while trying to establish himself in music.

Reflecting on his personal journey, the singer noted that his father initially did not support his decision to pursue a career in entertainment, a stance he said affected him emotionally at the time. However, that perspective eventually changed once his determination and success became clear.

Despite his reservations about the industry, Davido made it clear that he would not impose strict limitations on his children. Instead, he said he would support them if they decide to follow their own passions, including music or other forms of entertainment.

Interviewer: “Do you want your kids to be in this industry or would you prefer your kids to work with grandpa?”

Davido answered “Omo, go and work with my dad. Every Christmas, my dad takes all the grandkids with him. And I could just see that upon all the things he has including multiple private jets and all that, his happiness is him seeing his grandchildren.

“And my father is single. So I just saw his happiness and I’m like meh, this is like what life is all about. My dad not wanting me in the entertainment really killed my joy until he saw that this boy is really adamant about doing this. I wouldn’t want to do that to my kids as well. My daughter is already singing and dancing,” he said.
