Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have eliminated several bandits and dismantled their hideouts during a security operation in areas bordering Zamfara State and Sokoto State.
A security source disclosed on Saturday that the operation targeted criminal enclaves around Dangulbi and Kurawa villages in Tureta Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
According to the source, the June 4 offensive was carried out in collaboration with other security agencies and local vigilante groups, resulting in a fierce gun battle with the armed groups.
Several bandits, including suspected leaders, were reportedly killed during the exchange, while others fled into nearby forests with gunshot wounds. Security operatives also recovered weapons and motorcycles from the area.
“The swift response, professionalism, and courage displayed by our military personnel averted what could have been a tragic incident,” the source said.
The operation was reportedly conducted by personnel of the 8 Division under Operation Fansan Yamma.
Although military authorities have yet to issue an official statement, the source said the mission successfully dismantled major bandit camps and disrupted their activities in the region.
The Special Adviser to Governor Ahmad Aliyu on Security Matters, retired Colonel Ahmad Usman, alongside residents, commended the Nigerian Army for its continued efforts to combat banditry across Sokoto State.
Security officials said operations would continue to sustain pressure on criminal groups and enhance security across affected communities.
