Sharon Adeleke has credited her brother, Davido, with helping popularize a flashy, luxury-driven lifestyle in Nigeria’s music scene.
She made the remark during Davido’s Apple Radio live takeover marking his 15th anniversary in the industry, where family and friends reflected on his journey.
“I think that David is one of the people that started all this being flashy and showing off and making it cool, in Nigeria,” she said.
Davido responded by acknowledging earlier influences, particularly the now-defunct Mo’Hits.
“When we came to Nigeria, Mo’Hits did it with like having a crew but you see how in America, every successful musician has a crew, his guys and all that.”
Sharon, however, maintained that her brother elevated the culture locally.
“You brought that. Nobody used to do that.”
Davido has previously spoken about drawing inspiration from Mo’Hits, the iconic group led by Don Jazzy and D’banj.
