‘Politics Is Risky for My Career’ – Davido

Nigerian music superstar Davido has opened up about a change in his political ambitions, revealing that he is no longer as eager to venture into politics as he once was.

The award-winning singer, whose real name is David Adeleke, made the revelation during a recent livestream on Twitch with streamer Davrel. During the session, he spoke candidly about his earlier interest in politics and why his perspective has now shifted.

According to Davido, there was a time he seriously considered going into partisan politics. However, over time, his views have evolved, largely influenced by what he has observed about other celebrities who made similar moves.

He pointed out that many entertainers who transitioned into politics have not achieved the level of success people might have expected. This reality, he said, has made him more cautious about taking that path, especially considering everything he has built in his music career.

Davido also explained that his brand, reputation, and the goodwill he has earned over the years are significant factors he cannot ignore. For him, stepping into politics now comes with risks that could affect both his legacy and public perception.

“Before, I wanted to go into politics but honestly, now, I see it two ways. All my years of goodwill, my name and my career, all the hard work and the fan base we have built, it is tricky because the way people look at things; the superstars that have gone into politics, the transition hasn’t really been successful,” he said.

He further suggested that politics may not be something one simply steps into from another profession, but rather a field that demands full dedication and long-term commitment.

In his view, being a politician is more of a lifelong pursuit than a side venture, which makes the transition from entertainment even more complex.

“I feel like if you are a politician, you are a politician. It is like it is their business,” Davido added.
