Nigerian music star David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, has opened up about his journey in the industry and what fans can expect from him moving forward.
Speaking during the Official UK Afrobeats Chart Show with Eddie Kadi, the award-winning singer reflected on how far he has come, highlighting his global performances and the recognition he has received, including multiple Grammy nominations over the past three years.
He noted that he feels fulfilled with his achievements so far and is now focused on reconnecting with his roots by creating authentic African music, rather than blending in Western influences to appeal to a broader international audience.
Davido said, “This part of my career, I have performed everywhere, sold out every arena, I have been to three Grammys in the last three years. The music that is coming next is very Davido, it is very African. We have done it so I am not really looking to really do western sounds.”
The singer also spoke about the strong support he receives from fans in South Africa, claiming that “80 per cent” of the country’s population is familiar with him and enjoys his music.
Over the years, Davido has worked with several South African artists and has earned multiple certifications within the country’s music industry.
