Nigerian singer Omah Lay has claimed that Afrobeats is losing momentum internationally, particularly in Western markets.
Speaking during his Lagos Warehouse Session, the artist said the global buzz the genre enjoyed between 2020 and 2024 has started to decline, despite Nigerian artistes still performing well.
“Overseas, Afrobeats is declining. It is facts. Our artistes are doing really great but the Afrobeats that you guys used to know in 2020-2024, are not the Afrobeats you know now anymore,” he said.
Omah Lay added that he has been studying influential figures in music as he works toward revitalising the Nigerian sound.
He expressed confidence that his future releases will push fellow artistes to improve their craft and help restore Afrobeats’ global appeal.
