Nigerian singer and songwriter Omah Lay has stirred conversation within the music industry after boldly describing himself as the greatest Afrobeats artist of the decade.
The statement was made during an interview with Capital XTRA, where the artist reflected on his career, creative process, and the value he places on artistic expression.
During the discussion, Omah Lay made it clear that his perspective is rooted in the quality and depth of his work rather than mainstream indicators such as chart performance or public visibility.
He suggested that while fame and numbers often shape public opinion, they do not fully capture the essence of true artistry.
“I am the greatest Afrobeats artist of the decade, I am the greatest. Well, you can say that numbers and personality or the level of fame, then maybe you will not consider me. But when you come to making art, I’m the greatest,” he added.
