Plateau Residents Criticise Tinubu Visit

Some residents of Plateau State have criticised Bola Tinubu following his condolence visit after the deadly Palm Sunday attack in Jos.

The President, who visited the state to sympathise with victims of the violence in Angwan Rukuba, addressed stakeholders at the Yakubu Gowon Airport in Heipang before departing, without visiting the affected community or hospitals.

The move drew backlash from residents, many of whom said the visit lacked empathy and failed to directly engage with victims.

Some residents, reacting on social media, questioned why the President did not visit the injured or grieving families, arguing that addressing people at the airport distanced him from the reality of the tragedy.

“Welcome to Heipang Airport of Plateau State, Mr. President… Should you not be visiting the victims in the hospital?” one resident wrote.

Others described the visit as insensitive and poorly handled, with some suggesting it resembled a political engagement rather than a condolence visit.

Despite the criticism, the visit was part of efforts by the federal government to respond to the recent attack, which left over 30 people dead and several others injured.
