Alan Shearer has backed Manchester City to go on and clinch the Premier League title following their crucial 2-1 win against Arsenal on Sunday.
The match proved to be a significant turning point in the title race. After Ryan Cherki opened the scoring, Arsenal responded through Kai Havertz to level things. However, it was Erling Haaland who ultimately made the difference, scoring the winning goal to hand City all three points.
With the victory, Pep Guardiola’s side now sit just three points behind the leaders and still have a game in hand—an advantage that could prove decisive in the closing weeks of the season.
Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, Shearer acknowledged Arsenal’s missed opportunities but insisted City’s recent form makes them the team to beat.
“Arsenal had their moments, the chances they missed, the one-vs-one, the Havertz header right at the end, but you have to fancy Manchester City now.
“With that last six or seven weeks, with their performances, who they’ve beaten and how they’ve beaten them, you’d still have to fancy them.
“But I still don’t think both teams will go and win every game this season, I think there will be a twist of two.”
Despite naming City as favourites, Shearer suggested the title race is far from over, with potential surprises still expected as the season approaches its conclusion.
