Troops of the Nigerian Army attached to the 12 Brigade have recorded another operational breakthrough in Kogi State, intercepting suspected terrorist logistics couriers and recovering a large quantity of ammunition.
The operation took place along key routes in Lokoja Local Government Area, where security forces have been intensifying efforts to disrupt the movement of illicit arms and logistics linked to criminal networks.
In a statement issued by Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 12 Brigade, the interception followed the earlier arrest of a wanted ammunition courier identified as Mathew Elisha, also known as Nasara, who had been on security watch lists.
According to the statement, “The operation which was conducted on 20 April 2026 followed credible intelligence on the movement of suspected terrorists’ logistics elements within the Brigade’s area of responsibility.”
As part of the operation, troops stationed at Response Area Oshokoshoko mounted a snap checkpoint along the Obajana–Kabba road. During the stop, a Toyota bus traveling from Makurdi to Obajana was intercepted and searched.
The search led to the arrest of two suspects identified as Mallam Zubairu Abubakar and Adamu Abubakar Abdullahi, believed to be involved in transporting logistics for terrorist activities.
Further inspection of the vehicle uncovered a sack hidden behind the driver’s seat containing 314 rounds of 7.62mm (special) ammunition along with three AK-47 rifle magazines.
Additional items recovered from the suspects included two mobile phones, a driver’s licence, a National Identification Number slip, and an identity card.
Military authorities confirmed that the suspects, along with the recovered items, have been handed over to the 12 Military Intelligence Brigade for further investigation and appropriate action.
