Police Confirm Disruption of ADC Event in Cross River

The Cross River Police Command has confirmed that a political gathering of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the Bakassi Local Government Area was disrupted by suspected political thugs.

ASP Sunday Eitokpah, the command’s spokesperson, provided the confirmation on Sunday after a video of the incident began circulating online.

In the footage, one of the individuals involved can be heard commanding others to dismantle the setup, claiming the ADC was absent while they (the APC) were working to improve the local council area.

The police spokesperson explained that the event, which was scheduled for Saturday, was just about to start when “the hoodlums from nowhere came and scattered the canopies, chairs and sound systems.”

He noted, however, that the situation was quickly managed to prevent it from escalating into a larger conflict.

“Officers and tactical team are at the scene. The event couldn’t continue again. In such a chaotic situation, and considering the volatile nature of the area, for now, no arrests have been made,” he stated.

This incident follows a similar disruption of the party’s activities in Calabar last Tuesday.

These repeated interruptions have prompted the ADC to voice concerns over what they describe as an attempt to hijack the party’s structure within the state.
