Nnaji Blames PDP Crisis on Supreme Court Misinterpretation

The National Vice Chairman (South East) of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ray Nnaji, has said the party’s internal crisis stems largely from what he described as a misinterpretation of rulings by the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

Nnaji made the remarks while addressing journalists over the weekend, amid growing tensions within the party following recent legal developments.

According to him, despite widespread speculation, the PDP’s leadership structure remains fully intact and operational. He dismissed claims suggesting that the party is currently facing a leadership vacuum.

“There is no leadership vacuum. We are in charge, we are in possession of our national secretariat, and the party structure is intact,” he said.

His comments follow earlier statements by former Senate President Adolphus Wabara, who had argued that the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) had temporarily assumed leadership after a Supreme Court judgment concerning the disputed Ibadan national convention.

Wabara maintained that, as the party’s second-highest organ, the BoT was constitutionally empowered to step in after the apex court invalidated factions that emerged from the convention.

However, Nnaji disagreed with that interpretation, insisting that it does not accurately reflect the intent or implications of the court’s ruling.
