Benue Attack: Several Feared Dead in Agatu Herdsmen Ambush

Several persons are feared dead following a suspected herdsmen attack along the Odugbeho–Aila Road in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State.

Reports indicate that the victims were returning from their farms when the attackers, believed to have laid an ambush, opened fire on them.

Although the exact number of casualties has not been officially confirmed, at least four bodies have reportedly been recovered from the scene. Among those identified are Joy Simon and Lyta Monet.

As of the time of filing this report, efforts to obtain official confirmation from authorities were unsuccessful. The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Edet Udeme, did not respond to calls or messages seeking clarification.

Similarly, attempts to reach the Chairman of Agatu Local Government Area, Melvin Ejeh, were unsuccessful.

The incident adds to ongoing security concerns in parts of Benue State, where communities have continued to face violent attacks in recent times.
