The Kebbi State branch of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has reacted to the return of former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, after his release from detention, urging supporters to remain calm while pointing to the wider implications of his ongoing legal issues.
In a statement released on Tuesday by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Habibu Abubakar Sambo, the ADC noted that Malami’s return to the state marked by a gathering of loyal supporters demonstrated sustained public faith in justice and due process, despite the controversies tied to his case.
At the same time, the party emphasized the need for caution, appealing to its members and the general public to maintain peace and uphold democratic principles amid rising political tensions across the state.
“The return marks the end of a challenging period and reaffirms the hope that justice and due process will prevail,” the statement said, while also praising Malami’s “patience, dignity, and composure” throughout his time in detention.
The ADC also criticized the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), pledging to contest its dominance in the state and to curb what it described as governance “blunders” in the lead-up to future elections.
Malami’s return to Kebbi comes as legal proceedings against him continue. The former minister is currently facing several charges, including alleged terrorism financing, unlawful possession of firearms, and an N8.7 billion fraud and money laundering case.
During the most recent hearing on Monday at the Federal High Court in Abuja, prosecution witnesses presented testimony concerning financial transactions associated with a hotel account and certain loan arrangements.
Malami was present in court alongside his wife, while their son joined the proceedings shortly before the session was temporarily adjourned.
The cases are set to proceed in the weeks ahead.
