Kwankwaso Resigns from NNPP, Kano Govt Reacts

The Director-General of Media and Publicity at the Kano State Government House, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, has criticised former governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso over his exit from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

GoNews reported that Kwankwaso, has announced his resignation from the party with immediate effect.

In a Facebook post on Sunday, Bature described the move as a betrayal, particularly of Mr. Boniface, adding that the development reflects a deeper lesson about loyalty in politics. He noted that while Kwankwaso left the party, he did not abandon the Kwankwasiyya movement.

“We did not say we left the Kwankwasiyya movement or its ideas, and we have not stopped wearing the red cap,” he said.

Bature further stated that the situation calls for reflection, adding that Kwankwaso may have ultimately betrayed himself by leaving the party. He also suggested that many individuals, in different ways, had failed Mr. Boniface.

Meanwhile, Kwankwaso confirmed on Sunday that he has resigned from the NNPP with immediate effect.

“I wish to formally announce my resignation from the NNPP with immediate effect,” he said.

The former presidential candidate of the party in the 2023 elections explained that the decision followed careful consideration of Nigeria’s political direction and the need to align with a platform that offers better prospects for meaningful change.

“After looking at how things are going in the country, I believe it is necessary to join another political platform that gives the best chance to bring real change,” he added.

Kwankwaso acknowledged that leaving the party was not an easy decision, given his longstanding association with it, but maintained that current realities required a new political path.
