APC Stakeholders Criticise Gov Kefas Over Taraba Performance

A coalition of stakeholders within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Taraba State has openly criticised the administration of Governor Agbu Kefas, expressing dissatisfaction with what it described as the government’s performance over the past three years.

In a statement jointly issued with the political structure of Chief David Sabo Kente and signed by former APC State Secretary Godwin Villannah, the group said initial expectations were high that the current administration would deliver meaningful development across the state.

According to the coalition, Kente played a significant role in Kefas’ emergence during the last election cycle by mobilising support across all 16 local government areas, despite the governor’s then affiliation with the Peoples Democratic Party. The decision, it said, was driven by dissatisfaction with the APC’s candidate at the time.

However, the group argued that the anticipated progress has not materialised.

“Rather than dividends of democracy, it has been failed promises without any tangible development to show, despite the resources that have accrued to the state,” the statement read.

The stakeholders further alleged that since joining the APC, the governor has marginalised long-standing party members, claiming that party affairs are now being handled in a way that excludes those who contributed to building the party’s structure in the state.

They also raised concerns about political appointments, alleging an imbalance that favours individuals who defected alongside the governor over established APC members.

On infrastructure, the coalition criticised what it described as poor delivery, citing projects such as the Ibbi-Nwonyo road, which it claimed has not met expectations. It also pointed to unfulfilled promises, including a proposed flyover in Wukari, township road developments, and the construction of an international stadium.

Additionally, the group said road conditions in Jalingo have not improved despite earlier assurances, and questioned the outcomes of the governor’s foreign trips, noting that expected investment inflows have yet to be seen.

Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, the coalition called for a transparent and inclusive primary process within the APC, emphasising the need for fairness and equal opportunity for all aspirants.

The group maintained that David Sabo Kente possesses the experience, broad appeal, and leadership qualities needed to secure victory for the party and reposition the state.

It urged him to respond to calls from supporters to enter the race, describing his potential candidacy as key to addressing what it characterised as governance challenges in the state.
