Imo APC Conducts Screening for House of Assembly Aspirants

The All Progressives Congress in Imo State has screened 107 aspirants preparing to contest the party’s primary election for the 27 seats in the State House of Assembly ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

The disclosure was made by the Chairperson of the State Screening Committee, Judith Inamoto, after the completion of the exercise at the party’s secretariat along Okigwe Road in Owerri.

According to Inamoto, members of the screening committee and the appeal committee arrived in the state on a national assignment and immediately commenced the screening process.

“I, together with other members of the committee, are here on a national assignment. We were sent here to screen the aspirants for the House of Assembly in the state,” she said.

She disclosed that the screening exercise lasted two days, explaining that 36 aspirants were screened on the first day, while 71 others appeared before the committee on the second day.

Inamoto explained that the exercise was designed to clear qualified aspirants to participate in the party primary election, which will eventually produce 27 candidates for the main electoral contest.

When asked about the number of aspirants who successfully scaled through the screening process and those who failed, the committee chairperson stated that such details would be contained in the committee’s official report.

She, however, described the exercise as transparent and open, adding that the aspirants expressed satisfaction with how the process was conducted.

One of the aspirants, Osinachi Amako, who is contesting for the Owerri West State Constituency seat, also commended the peaceful conduct of the exercise.

According to him, the APC in Imo State continues to grow stronger and more organised.

Amako further disclosed that beyond his legislative responsibilities, he has plans to introduce empowerment programmes for residents of his constituency if elected into the State House of Assembly.

He also pledged to unite other aspirants and work with them if he eventually emerges victorious in the party primary election.
