The Riyom Youth Council (RYC) of the All Progressives Congress in Plateau State has condemned the recent wave of attacks in parts of Riyom and Barkin Ladi Local Government Areas, which reportedly claimed several lives and led to the destruction of property.
The group described the killings in Rim, Jol, Bachit, Fan, Nding, and nearby communities as senseless, painful, and completely unacceptable.
Speaking during a press briefing in Jos, Plateau State capital, the chairman of the council, Pam Nuhu Daniel, and the secretary, Patience Chaimang, expressed concern over the continued violence in the affected communities.
According to them, the attacks represent a serious setback capable of undermining the peace and unity residents have struggled to preserve over the years.
The youth council appealed to young people in Riyom Local Government Area to remain calm and avoid retaliatory actions, warning against attempts by individuals or groups to exploit the crisis for further violence.
“We must remain law-abiding and continue to work together for peace, unity, and stability. We also call on security agencies to intensify efforts toward arresting the perpetrators of these heinous acts and ensuring that justice is served,” it stated.
The group also called on security agencies to strengthen efforts toward identifying and prosecuting those responsible for the attacks.
On the political situation ahead of the 2027 elections, the council urged politicians and aspirants within the constituency to put the collective interest of the people above personal ambition.
They further appealed to political stakeholders to respect the zoning arrangement already agreed upon by elders in the area in order to maintain unity and political stability.
