Stakeholders from the APC legacy bloc have formally presented three nominees to Abba Kabir Yusuf for consideration as the next Deputy Governor of Kano State, following the recent vacancy in the position.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Sunday by Magaji Umar Gwammaja, who confirmed that the list includes Rabiu Sulaiman Bichi, Kabiru Alhassan Rurum, and Murtala Sule Garo.
The nomination process comes after the resignation of former Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo on March 27, 2026, prompting efforts within the political structure to identify a suitable replacement.
Gwammaja described all three nominees as experienced leaders with strong political and administrative credentials. He noted that Rabiu Sulaiman Bichi stands out for his extensive background in governance, having served in both state and federal capacities.
He also highlighted Kabiru Alhassan Rurum’s experience in legislative matters, as well as Murtala Sule Garo’s long-standing involvement in local government administration and his contributions at the state executive level.
“The list will be forwarded to security agencies for proper screening to ensure they meet the required standards,” Gwammaja said.
According to him, the process will not end with internal selection, as it will involve broader consultations aimed at ensuring political cohesion. He stated that the governor is expected to engage with Bola Ahmed Tinubu before making a final decision.
“This step will ensure national synergy and political alignment. After these high-level consultations, the governor will transmit the final selected name to the Kano State House of Assembly for formal screening and confirmation in accordance with constitutional provisions,” he said.
The next phase will therefore focus on security screening, political consultations, and legislative approval, all of which will determine who ultimately fills the deputy governorship position in Kano State.
