ADC Kano Leadership Sharing Gives Kwankwaso 60%

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kano State has finalized a leadership-sharing arrangement that gives 60 percent of key positions to former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and his supporters.

The agreement marks a significant development in the party’s internal restructuring as it prepares for future political contests.

The decision was reached during a stakeholders’ meeting, where party leaders and members gathered to deliberate on the composition of the leadership structure. After discussions, participants agreed on a formula aimed at balancing interests within the party while accommodating new entrants.

Kano State ADC Chairman Musa Ungogo confirmed the outcome, explaining that Kwankwaso’s faction would take the larger share of leadership roles.

The remaining 40 percent, he said, would be allocated to existing party members as well as individuals and groups that have recently joined the ADC.

Ungogo clarified that no position was specifically reserved for former Deputy Governor Nasiru Gawuna. However, he noted that Gawuna is now politically aligned with Kwankwaso and would be considered within his camp in the sharing arrangement.

According to him, the 40 percent allocation will cut across a wide range of political interests. Beneficiaries include members from the Labour Party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC), Social Democratic Party (SDP) members, and individuals who were previously not active in politics.

He added, “One thing you can take home is that every group and every member is happy about the sharing formula. And secondly, all the positions that you will get from this congress today would be reached by consensus. There will be nothing to regret.”

Ungogo further stated that the ADC is experiencing a surge in popularity within Kano State, as more people continue to join from different political backgrounds, including both major parties and independent groups.

He described Kwankwaso’s decision to align with the ADC as a major boost, adding that the combined efforts of local and national leaders have contributed significantly to the party’s recent growth and increasing relevance in the state’s political landscape.
