The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kano has intensified its crackdown on drug-related activities, resulting in the arrest of 21 suspects during a coordinated operation across several parts of the state.
Details of the operation were provided in a statement by the agency’s Public Relations Officer, Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, who explained that the raids took place on April 11, 2026, under the direction of Commander D. Y. Lawal.
NDLEA operatives targeted multiple locations identified as drug hotspots, including Filin Idi, Hotoro, Mariri, Fagge, and the Farm Center area along Zaria Road. The coordinated nature of the operation allowed officers to act swiftly across these areas, disrupting suspected drug networks.
During the raids, officials recovered a variety of illicit substances, including cannabis, pregabalin capsules, codeine-based cough syrup, and rubber solution, which is often misused as an inhalant. In addition to drugs, officers also seized locally made weapons found at some of the locations.
“Suspects who attempted to attack officers with locally-made weapons were tactically disarmed and taken into custody. Investigations are ongoing to identify principal drug dealers and to build cases for prosecution,” he said.
Speaking further on the success of the operation, Commander D. Y. Lawal highlighted the role of logistical support provided by the Kano State Government. He noted that recently donated vehicles have significantly enhanced the agency’s ability to respond quickly to intelligence and expand its operational reach.
“The timely donation of vehicles by the Kano State Government has enabled our command to extend coverage and respond swiftly to intelligence.
“We will continue to use these assets for sustained, visible operations to rid our communities of illicit drugs. Those still engaged in this illicit business should repent now before it is too late,” he said.
The NDLEA reiterated its determination to combat drug trafficking and abuse, emphasizing its focus on safeguarding communities, particularly young people who are often most affected by substance abuse.
The agency also appealed to members of the public to support its efforts by sharing credible information and cooperating with law enforcement authorities, noting that community involvement remains crucial in tackling drug-related crimes effectively.
