ADC Crisis Deepens as Two Chairmen Emerge in Katsina

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Katsina State is facing a deepening leadership crisis after parallel congresses conducted by rival factions resulted in the emergence of two separate state executives.

The first congress, held on Tuesday, produced Musa Wamba as state chairman and Nasir Umar as secretary-general. However, the outcome was immediately disputed by another faction within the party.

A rival congress convened on Thursday subsequently announced a different leadership, with Mohammed Rimi emerging as chairman and Abubakar Adhama as secretary-general.

The development has further complicated the party’s internal structure in the state, as both factions continue to lay claim to legitimacy.

Earlier, officials at the party’s national secretariat had rejected the Tuesday congress, describing it as unauthorised. They maintained that officially recognised congresses were scheduled to hold at a later date, thereby casting doubt on the legitimacy of the earlier exercise.

The crisis reflects broader internal tensions within the ADC, particularly following the influx of new members from other political parties. These developments have intensified disputes over leadership positions and the control of party structures.

With both factions standing by their respective outcomes, uncertainty continues to surround the party’s leadership in Katsina State, raising concerns about its cohesion and preparedness ahead of future political activities.
