2027: PDP Aspirant Urges Nigerians to Vote Credible Leaders

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party and aspirant for Abeokuta South Federal Constituency, Amuzu, has called on Nigerians to play a more active role in determining the country’s future by electing credible leaders in the 2027 general elections.

He made the appeal during an engagement with residents of the constituency, where he emphasised that democracy can only produce meaningful outcomes when citizens make informed and responsible choices at the ballot box.

Amuzu expressed concern over Nigeria’s pace of development compared to other countries, noting that his experiences abroad have exposed him to more efficient governance systems and stronger institutional frameworks. Despite these concerns, he said he remains optimistic about the country’s future.

“I feel ashamed when I travel out and see the level of development in other countries. Nigerians may not truly enjoy democracy until citizens begin to vote the right individuals into office as both a personal and collective responsibility,” he said.

He stressed that sustainable development depends on electing leaders with proven competence and integrity, while also calling on citizens to actively support such leadership for progress to be achieved.

According to him, developed nations are built on visionary leadership and strong institutions, and Nigeria’s transformation must be driven by the collective will of its people.

Amuzu urged voters to rise above sentiments and reject inducements, cautioning against decisions based on religion, political affiliation, or financial incentives.

“As we approach 2027, we must shun the politics of rice and money. I am here to serve, not to make empty promises. Together, we can make a difference,” he said.

He also criticised what he described as a recurring pattern in the country’s leadership selection.

“The worst of us have ruled the best of us,” he said, attributing the trend to a lack of integrity and patriotism in electoral choices.

He questioned why underperforming leaders continue to receive support despite failing to meet expectations, urging Nigerians to use their votes as a tool for accountability.

The aspirant highlighted persistent challenges such as unreliable electricity supply, lack of potable water, and poor road infrastructure, describing them as basic responsibilities of government that should not be politicised.

He concluded by encouraging eligible citizens to participate in the ongoing voter registration exercise and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), stressing the importance of active participation in the democratic process ahead of the 2027 elections.
