The Labour Party in Lagos State has stated that its organisational structures remain fully active across all 20 local government areas of the state as preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Lagos State Secretary of the party, Sam Okpala, made the disclosure during an interview with journalists on Tuesday in Lagos.
According to Okpala, the party has strengthened its internal structures and implemented necessary measures aimed at ensuring a stronger performance in the next general elections.
He assured party members and supporters that the Labour Party remains united and operational despite the ongoing leadership disagreements within the organisation.
Okpala disclosed that the party has already commenced voter sensitisation and mobilisation exercises across different communities in Lagos State as part of efforts to expand its grassroots presence.
He also noted that the Independent National Electoral Commission has directed political parties nationwide to register members through its electronic registration platform.
According to him, the Labour Party began its membership registration exercise shortly after the 2023 general elections and has continued the process steadily since then.
“We started preparation since 2023 and we are still here today and stronger,” he said.
The party chieftain described the Labour Party as people-oriented, adding that its activities are focused on mobilising citizens and encouraging voter participation ahead of future elections.
He urged residents not to allow fear, intimidation or concerns over electoral malpractice discourage them from participating in the democratic process.
“Fear of violence, intimidation and electoral malpractice contribute to low voter turnout. We do not want people to be afraid and fail to perform their civic responsibility,” he said.
Speaking on the leadership crisis within the party, Okpala admitted that the internal disputes had affected the organisation but expressed optimism that the Supreme Court would eventually resolve the matter in the party’s favour.
“We are hopeful that as the Supreme Court gives its judgment, it will be in our favour and we will reclaim the party,” he stated.
Okpala maintained that the Labour Party remains optimistic about improving its political performance and making a stronger impact in the 2027 elections.
