Divided Opposition Will Hand Tinubu Victory in 2027 — Analyst

Legal practitioner and public policy analyst, Prof. Chris Nwakobia, has warned that Nigeria’s opposition parties risk handing President Bola Tinubu an easy path to victory in the 2027 elections if they remain divided.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television on Sunday, Nwakobia criticised the current state of the opposition, describing the political atmosphere as “troubling.”

His comments followed the reported defection of former presidential candidates Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the next general elections.

“An opposition fighting itself is coronating Bola Ahmed Tinubu for 2027,” Nwakobia said.

According to him, history has repeatedly shown that fragmented opposition forces struggle to defeat ruling parties at the national level.

He urged opposition leaders to set aside personal ambitions and political rivalries if they truly intend to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“If you truly feel that the APC hasn’t done well, what you must do is organise properly,” he added.

Nwakobia further called on political actors to prioritise national interest over ego and individualism, stressing that unity remains the opposition’s strongest chance ahead of 2027.
