The Federal High Court of Nigeria has taken a significant step toward modernising its operations with the launch of an electronic filing (e-filing) system at its Lagos Division.
The system was officially unveiled on Monday, April 27, 2026, at the court’s premises in Lagos, marking a key milestone in efforts to improve the efficiency and transparency of judicial processes.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Judge of the court, John Tsoho, explained that the initiative forms part of ongoing reforms aimed at bringing the judiciary in line with modern technological standards.
According to him, the e-filing platform will allow legal practitioners to file cases and court processes online, thereby reducing delays, minimising physical interactions, and enhancing access to justice.
In a statement, Mr Tsoho said“, This initiative is designed to improve transparency, eliminate unnecessary human interference and ensure that court processes are handled more efficiently”.
Also speaking at the launch, the Chief Registrar of the court, Sulaiman Hassan, highlighted the operational benefits of the new system.
“With the introduction of e-filing, lawyers can now initiate and manage their cases remotely without the stress of physical filing. It will also improve tracking and accountability,” Hassan stated.
The Lagos Division will serve as the pilot phase for the initiative, with plans already in place to extend the e-filing system to other divisions of the court across the country.
The development is expected to streamline case management, reduce paperwork, and improve overall service delivery within the judicial system.
