A public affairs analyst from Northeast Nigeria, Babandi Shehu, has suggested that Ali Ndume may be preparing to seek another term in the Senate, marking what would be his fifth tenure if successful in the 2027 elections.
Shehu disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday, where he pointed to growing political activity in the region ahead of the forthcoming primaries of the All Progressives Congress, scheduled for May.
According to him, there is already a coordinated push among young people across the nine local government areas that make up the Southern Borno Senatorial District.
He noted that the youths are actively working to secure the party’s nomination ticket for Ndume, signalling early support for his potential candidacy.
He said, “Ndume is not just a senator; he is a nationalist.
“At this stage of its political history, Nigeria needs senators like Ndume who fearlessly check the excesses of the executive and tell the truth to power, not minding whose ox is gored.”
Ndume, who is currently serving as a fourth-term senator, has built a reputation for speaking openly on national issues.
In recent times, he has been notably critical of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly on matters relating to governance and accountability.
