Ndume Reveals Why Northeast May Back Tinubu in 2027

Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, has expressed confidence that residents of Nigeria’s Northeast region will support President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections in recognition of ongoing infrastructure investments.

Ndume made the remarks on Saturday after the official commencement of the reconstruction and dualization of the 125-kilometer Gombe-Biu highway, a major road project expected to improve transportation and economic activities across the region.

The lawmaker commended President Tinubu and Minister of Works David Umahi for fulfilling commitments to rehabilitate the critical road corridor.

Reflecting on his long-standing advocacy for the project, Ndume said:

“In 2019, during a high-level engagement with the then minister of works and housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola, which I initiated, I expressed concerns regarding the deplorable condition of the Biu–Gombe Road, emphasizing its strategic significance to economic integration, interstate mobility, security operations, and regional development within the Northeast subregion.”

He noted that he continued pushing for the project in subsequent discussions with the Ministry of Works and infrastructure funding stakeholders.

According to the senator, his February 11, 2026 correspondence with Umahi helped draw attention to the exclusion of some Borno communities from the federal government’s legacy road projects, eventually leading to approval of the highway under a federal tax credit framework.

“It is a laudable project that will unlock economic opportunities and improve the quality of life for Nigerians,” Ndume stated.

He added: “I am sure that the people of the Northeast will appreciate this gesture of Mr. President and reward him with their votes in the forthcoming general elections.”

The N1.245 trillion road project was officially flagged off on Thursday in Liji, Gombe State.
