VP Shettima Visits Kebbi After Deadly Attacks

Vice President Kashim Shettima on Tuesday visited Kebbi State to extend condolences following recent violent attacks in parts of the state and the passing of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Muhammad Usman-Zuru.

During the visit to the Government House in Birnin Kebbi, Shettima delivered a message of sympathy on behalf of Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Governor Nasir Idris, families of fallen security personnel, and residents affected by the recent incidents.

He also expressed condolences over the death of the Speaker, recalling that he passed away on April 6 in Cairo, Egypt, after a prolonged illness.

The vice president explained that his visit was in line with the president’s directive to personally commiserate with the government and people of Kebbi State.

“We are here to express our condolences to the families of the security personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty, as well as over the death of the speaker,” he said.

Shettima described the attacks in Shanga Local Government Area, as well as the killing of security personnel in Giron Masa, as deeply unfortunate, adding that the Federal Government stands firmly in solidarity with the state during this period.

He further disclosed that officials from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) were part of the delegation, tasked with providing support and relief to communities affected by the attacks.

In his remarks, Governor Nasir Idris thanked the president for the gesture, describing the visit as a clear demonstration of support and concern for the state in a time of hardship.

He revealed that approximately 11 individuals, including security personnel, lost their lives in an ambush while responding to a distress call in Shanga Local Government Area.

The governor also noted that the state government has taken steps to support victims of the attacks, including providing financial assistance to affected families.
