Residents of Asarara village in Jega Local Government Area of Kebbi State have been thrown into mourning after a middle-aged couple was brutally killed inside their home.
The victims, identified as 45-year-old Muhammad Haruna and his 35-year-old wife, Habiba Abubakar, were reportedly attacked and murdered in the early hours of Saturday around 5:30 a.m.
Neighbours and relatives described Haruna as a quiet and peaceful man who was not known to have conflicts within the community, making the incident even more shocking for residents.
The tragic killings drew sympathisers to the family residence as news of the attack spread across the village.
The couple is survived by six children — four boys and two girls — who have now been left without parents.
Confirming the incident, Kebbi State Police Command spokesperson Bashir Usman said the bodies had been moved to a hospital in Birnin Kebbi for examination as investigators work to uncover the circumstances surrounding the crime.
Police also confirmed that a suspect has been arrested in connection with the killings.
According to the command, investigators recovered substantial evidence allegedly linking the suspect to the crime. Authorities further revealed that the suspect had reportedly threatened the deceased couple with a cutlass on several occasions before the attack.
Police assured residents that security operatives are handling the situation and urged members of the community to remain calm and cooperate with ongoing investigations.
