Turkey to Open Visa Application Centre in Kano

The Mehmet Poroy has announced plans to establish a Turkish visa application centre in Kano, aimed at boosting trade and investment ties between Nigeria and Turkey.

The proposed centre is expected to make visa processing easier for businesspeople in Kano and nearby regions, removing the need to travel to Abuja.

Poroy made the disclosure during a meeting with members of the Kano business community, including the Kano Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture, describing the engagement as productive and focused on strengthening economic cooperation.

“We will have good news and other facilities to increase people-to-people contact between business communities. A new Turkish visa application centre will be opened soon in Kano to facilitate easy access,” he said.

Chairman of the Nigeria-Turkey Business Council, Dele Kelvin Oye, noted that the visit followed up on Bola Tinubu’s trip to Turkey earlier in 2026.

He revealed that stakeholders are working to increase bilateral trade between both countries from $2 billion to $5 billion, highlighting Kano’s strategic role as a key commercial hub responsible for a significant share of Nigeria’s exports.

Oye added that the focus is not just on trade but also on investment opportunities that can drive economic growth.

President of KACCIMA, Usman Darma, said the initiative would further strengthen ties in sectors such as agriculture, industry, and energy, while improving access for local businesses seeking partnerships with Turkish firms.

He also acknowledged concerns around international payment systems, particularly Letters of Credit, assuring that experts would be engaged to address the issues.

The meeting forms part of broader efforts to deepen economic relations and unlock new investment opportunities between Nigeria and Turkey.
