Troops Arrest Suspected Terrorist Informant in Yobe

Troops of the 159 Battalion under Operation Hadin Kai have arrested a 23-year-old man suspected of spying for terrorist groups in Yobe State.

The suspect was apprehended in Kanama, within Yunusari Local Government Area, following intelligence provided by members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).

A source revealed that the arrest took place in the afternoon of March 30 after security operatives acted swiftly on the tip-off.

“The suspect was arrested at about 3:15 pm on March 30 following intelligence provided by members of the Civilian Joint Task Force.”

The individual, identified as Isah Mahammadu, is said to be from Kafetowa village in Yunusari LGA. During initial questioning, he denied any affiliation with extremist groups such as Boko Haram or Islamic State West Africa Province, claiming he was in the area for Sallah celebrations.

“Preliminary interrogation indicated that the suspect denied involvement with terrorist groups, claiming he was in Kanama to celebrate the Sallah festivities.”

Items recovered from him included a small bag containing a mirror, four hand bangles, a torchlight phone, and N3,500.

Security sources confirmed that the suspect and recovered items remain in military custody and will be transferred to higher authorities for further investigation.
