Police Seal Venue for ADC Committee Inauguration in Cross River

Security operatives in Calabar on Tuesday sealed off a venue designated for the inauguration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Membership Registration, Mobilisation and Revalidation Committee.

The committee, led by Eko Alobo, had been established by the party in Cross River State as part of its preparations for upcoming primaries.

The inauguration was scheduled for Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at an event center located along Marian Road, starting at 10:00 a.m.

However, a team of mobile police officers reportedly arrived at the venue as early as 7:00 a.m. and cordoned off the premises, preventing party members and organizers from gaining access to the facility.

Sources close to the security personnel revealed that the action was taken following instructions related to a petition allegedly submitted by some members of the party.

Attempts by party stakeholders to resolve the situation did not immediately yield results.

Meanwhile, prominent ADC leaders, including the party’s South-South Zonal Vice Chairman, Dr. Usani Uguru Usani, and former Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Bassey Eko Ewa, reportedly met with the Commissioner of Police in an effort to address the development.

Following the standoff, organizers relocated the meeting to the residence of Dr. Usani Usani, where a large number of party supporters and stakeholders later gathered.
