Osun: Accord Attacks APC Over Security Funding

The Accord in Osun State has again criticised the All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing it of using alleged proceeds of crime to support security agencies.

In a statement, the state chairman of Accord, Victor Babalola Akande, described the development as disturbing and accused the APC of promoting illegality under the guise of security support.

The remarks followed an earlier statement by the APC, signed by its Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, which criticised Governor Ademola Adeleke and Accord over what it described as the politicisation of security matters.

The APC defended local government chairmen for donating operational vehicles to the police, calling criticism of the move “uncalled for” and insisting that protecting lives and property remains a core responsibility of government.

Responding, Akande maintained that such actions raise serious legal and ethical concerns.

“Empowering the police with proceeds of crime is not patriotism, it is criminality dressed in borrowed robes,” he said.

He further argued that individuals presented as council officials lacked the legal authority to manage public resources, warning that such actions could undermine due process and public trust.

Akande also cautioned against politicising security issues, stressing that any deviation from lawful procedures could weaken, rather than strengthen, public safety.
