MACBAN Raises Alarm Over Attack in Plateau

The Plateau State chapter of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has raised alarm over an alleged attack on herders in Izovo community, Miango district of Bassa Local Government Area.

According to the association, the incident occurred on Saturday afternoon, leaving three herders missing and five cows killed.

State Chairman, Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, said the victims were engaged in routine grazing activities when they were ambushed by gunmen he identified as Irigwe militia members.

“The attackers who were identified as Irigwe Militias, struck while the herders were grazing their cattle, opening fire and forcing the herders to flee before killing the animals with machetes and gunshots,” the MACBAN Chairman said.

Babayo described the attack as unprovoked and warned that it could escalate tensions in the state, adding that the matter has been reported to security agencies.

“This act is not only a direct attack on the livelihood of innocent pastoralists but also a dangerous development capable of heightening tensions and undermining the fragile peace in the state.

“Cattle rearing remains a legitimate means of livelihood for thousands of families, and any form of violence against it must be treated as a serious offense,” Babayo added.

He called on authorities to investigate the incident and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
