At least 45 kidnapped victims have been rescued during ongoing security operations in forest areas around Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
Governor Bala Mohammed confirmed the development during a visit to the freed victims, describing the outcome as a major relief for affected families and communities.
He said the rescue was achieved through coordinated efforts by security agencies, who also neutralised some bandits and arrested others during the operation.
According to the governor, the crackdown has significantly weakened criminal groups operating in the area, while search efforts are continuing to locate more victims still in captivity.
He assured that the rescued individuals would receive medical attention, psychological support, and other forms of assistance to help them reintegrate into society.
The governor also revealed plans to properly document the victims, citing concerns about a possible link between illegal mining activities and insecurity in the region.
While commending the progress made, he urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, warning that some locals may still be aiding criminal elements.
