Gunmen Attack Riyom Community, Kill Two in Plateau

At least two persons have been killed and several others injured following a fresh attack on Kyeng village in Bachi District of Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The attack reportedly took place on Sunday night when suspected armed bandits invaded the community and opened fire on residents for several hours.

The incident was confirmed in a statement issued on Monday by the National President of the Berom Youth Moulders-Association, Solomon Mwantiri.

The statement, which was signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the association, Rwang Tengwong, condemned the killing of two Berom youths days after another deadly attack in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area where several residents were reportedly killed.

According to the association, the attackers ambushed residents while they were asleep and unleashed terror on the community before fleeing into nearby bushes.

The victims were identified as Peter Dung, 22, and Amos Bele Danbwarang, 19, who were reportedly shot dead during the attack.

The group described the incident as unprovoked and alleged that attempts to contact security agencies during the attack were unsuccessful.

According to the association, residents were left helpless as the attackers carried out the assault for hours without intervention.

“This is another condemnable attack on another Berom village. It is not only barbaric, inhuman, but also part of the continuing violence against innocent native communities in Plateau State,” the statement said.

“The killing of these young men is painful and unacceptable. It reflects the continued assaults on peaceful communities and innocent residents,” the association added.

The group called on security agencies to immediately track down those responsible for the attack and ensure they are arrested and prosecuted.

It also urged the government at all levels to take stronger and more decisive actions to address the persistent insecurity and killings affecting communities across Plateau State.
