The Kano State Government has dismissed as false and malicious reports claiming that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf snubbed the 16th Fulani Emir of Kano, Mallam Muhammadu Sanusi II, during the traditional Hawan Nasarawa held on Sunday, maintaining that the governor was in Lagos observing Sallah engagements with President Tinubu alongside other state governors.
This clarification was contained in a statement issued by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, who said the government is aware of a report circulating on some online platforms alleging that Governor Yusuf ignored the Emir during the Hawan Nasarawa at the Government House in Kano.
“The Government wishes to state unequivocally that the claim is false, unfounded, and devoid of any factual basis.
“The report is therefore misleading and appears to have been deliberately concocted to misinform the public and create unnecessary tension.
The Government notes, “For the avoidance of doubt, it is an established tradition for Governors to pay homage to the President during the Sallah period.”
He explained that this year’s Eid-el-Fitr Hawan Nasarawa coincided with the annual strategic meeting of Nigerian governors, resulting in a scheduling conflict that required the governor’s presence outside the state.
According to him, in line with protocol, Governor Yusuf duly informed the Emir, Muhammadu Sanusi II, and directed the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, along with other top government officials, to receive the Emir on his behalf at the Government House.
“It is also noteworthy that His Excellency attended the Eid prayer led by the Emir of Kano, the Hawan Daushe at Gaya Emirate and had made arrangements to personally receive the Emirs of Rano, Karaye, and Gaya.”
He added that due to the unavoidable clash in engagements, senior officials were assigned to represent the governor as appropriate.
“At the time of the event, the Governor was in Lagos attending an official meeting alongside other progressive Governors, in line with his scheduled engagements.”
The Kano State Government further stressed that there is no dispute or misunderstanding between the state government and the Kano Emirate Council.
It reaffirmed that the relationship remains cordial and built on mutual respect, with a shared commitment to peace, unity, and development in Kano State.
The statement also urged members of the public to disregard the report and rely on verified and official sources for accurate information.
