Nigeria Police Deny Tactical Units Disbandment Reports

The Nigeria Police Force has clarified that the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has not ordered the complete disbandment of all tactical units operating across state commands.

This clarification was contained in a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Placid, who described earlier reports as a distortion of the IGP’s directive.

The police spokesperson explained that claims suggesting the IGP had instructed the immediate dissolution of several tactical units nationwide were inaccurate and misleading.

“The attention of the Inspector-General of Police has been drawn to the story recently circulated by some online media outlets.

“The publication stated that the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, directed the immediate dissolution of multiple tactical units operating across state commands nationwide.

“This report is a misrepresentation of the IGP’s directives,” the statement said.

He added that although the IGP is mindful of public concerns regarding the conduct of tactical teams, he also recognises the important role they play in tackling crime.
